Endwalker’s relic weapons will be unique, as they actually tie into what is known as Final Fantasy 14’s most goofy quests: the Manderville quests. These side quests have been optional and are well known for being absolutely silly in their characters, story, and tone. While some fans love these quests, others do not appreciate them nearly as much. The announcement that the next relic weapons will be connected to the Manderville quests has gotten mixed reactions....

In an update post on the game’s website, game director Naoki Yoshida made the announcement that Final Fantasy 14 was resuming digital sales. Yoshida says that this decision has come “after due consideration” on the matter and that Square Enix has concluded that it would be safe for the servers to resume sales. Hopefully, this means that players waiting in server queues will be able to get in for some playtime a little quicker now....

That close relationship between the notion of a Final Fantasy game and JRPGs, however, might not have been as beneficial as Square Enix and gamers alike previously thought. Hajime Tabata, the outspoken director behind Final Fantasy 15, insinuated recently in an interview with Japanese site 4Gamer that the historical significance and fan dedication toward Final Fantasy might have been a hindrance that he calls Final Fantasy disease: While harsh, that’s exactly the kind of sentiment that Tabata has brought to a franchise that has become stagnant in recent years and desperate for a revitalization of sorts....
