Considering how long fans have been waiting for a Final Fantasy 7 Remake, expectations are extraordinarily high, and Square Enix is going to be closely scrutinized as development on the project continues. Fans just want to see the game succeed, and so every little detail leading up to release will be analyzed to death. One of the biggest concerns fans seem to have at this early stage revolves around the combat system, and whether it should evolve beyond the turn-based system of the original game....

Unlike Mass Effect 3, though, this game, titled Finding Shepard is a point-and-click adventure in the same vein as many of the 8-bit titles of yesteryear. The game is still currently in development, but some screenshots from Finding Shepard have been released on the Adventure Game Studios forums to give fans a taste of what user Nightfable is up to. According to IGN, during a hands-on preview event for the upcoming Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker expansion, director Naoki Yoshida revealed that Final Fantasy 14 now boasts over 24 million players. Yoshida shared a chart with press to show how the player count has grown since A Real Reborn released eight years ago. In 2015, it had 4 million players. By 2017, this had jumped to 10 million, and this has now more than doubled in the last five years....

Starting in Patch 6.1, housing in Final Fantasy 14 is resolved via a lottery pull, instead of the previous first-come, first-serve basis. However, when the first lottery was pulled, several lots erroneously selected entry 0 as the winner, causing many plots to become impossible to claim, even at plots with a single bidder. The latest update for Final Fantasy 14 reportedly forces the use of a new launcher through Steam. This launcher, unlike the previous, does not fully support Linux and so does not support the Steam Deck’s OS. What happens is the launcher now has a forced login process linking a player’s Steam Account with their Square Enix Final Fantasy 14 account. The new launcher isn’t able to complete this action on Linux, so the game will freeze upon starting – assumedly because of its inability to log in to both Steam and Square Enix’s accounts....

In a departure from the usual turn-based battle system that the time-honored series has so frequently used, Final Fantasy 15’s combat redefines the formula by having battles take place in real-time and at a frantic pace – not unlike the system seen in Kingdom Hearts. Needless to say, some fans will need a little time to ease into this new battle system, but Final Fantasy 15 has a second combat mode available to those who need a bit of a helping hand in adjusting to the quick-paced, chain-centric attack cycles required for battle....

This is according to Final Fantasy XV’s game director Hajime Tabata. To put this lofty sales goal in perspective, the most popular game in the series, Final Fantasy VII, has sold just over 11 million units so far. That number includes the game’s many re-releases over the years, with the exception of the recent Final Fantasy VII PS4 port. It is highly unlikely that Final Fantasy XV will reach that sales goal by the end of the year, but it is certainly possible for the game to hit it over time....

In the meantime, it’s worth thinking about the original Final Fantasy 16 trailer. There’s a lot to unpack there, such as Final Fantasy 16’s time skip, Clive’s character change, the war that erupts, the Blight, and more. There’s so much to appreciate about Final Fantasy VII, but the RPG’s best quality might very well be Nobuo Uematsu’s legendary soundtrack– for both the original and the Remake....

The event didn’t show off too much, but it did tease the more open-ended environments players will see in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s world. It also ended with the reveal that it will release in the winter of 2023. Players that are familiar with the original release of Final Fantasy 7 may not be surprised by the artwork that is featured on the FF7 Remake cover. Indeed, this Final Fantasy 7 Remake artwork is a direct update to the box art that was used for the North American release of the original Final Fantasy 7, and it depicts the game’s main protagonist, Cloud Strife, standing in front of FF7 Remake’s Shinra Headquarters....

One reason fans have so many questions is because of how drastically different Final Fantasy 7 Remake is from the original title. The game features an entirely revamped combat system and even has made massive story changes so that fans aren’t sure what to expect. This includes characters not dying when they did before, or even having a whole faction from a spin-off game appear in Final Fantasy 7 Remake....

Specifically, Square Enix states that anyone that has pre-ordered Final Fantasy 7 Remake through the Square Enix store needs to reconfirm their order no later than February 28. Players that do not reconfirm by that date will have their pre-orders cancelled, and the developers indicates that it will not be able to reinstate any orders due to the limited quantities of the game that are available. Nomura’s quote, taken from an interview with Dengeki PlayStation and translated by Gematsu, seems to imply that the characters that did receive full voice overs in Advent Children will see the same voice actors reprise their roles for the video game, although that hasn’t been confirmed yet. That Nomura and company haven’t found the voices for every character yet makes sense, however, given that the team behind Final Fantasy 7 Remake wants to expand on side characters like Jessie, Biggs, and Wedge....

Recently, a fan of the Final Fantasy series posted a picture of their PSN profile on Reddit.
