However, those who enjoyed what Cissnei brought to the story would be surprised to find that she’s only in two games, one of which is stranded on old mobile devices. While it makes sense as to why Cissnei is missing from Final Fantasy 7 itself, as CC serves as a prequel, it may upset any new fans who decide to get into the series through Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion. Square Enix has a great opportunity to bring her back, however, and that involves including her somewhere in the FF7 Remake trilogy.

Cissnei’s Unresolved Involvement in Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion

The Turks in Crisis Core are quick to worm their way into fans’ hearts when they appear. Cissnei almost demands players’ attention when she appears as she defeats the Genesis copies surrounding her single-handedly when Zack was eager to save her. From then on, she becomes a support to Zack, reassuring him that Angeal isn’t a monster and even giving Zack important info from Shinra – both official and restricted. While she isn’t in the game much compared to Aerith, she’s also teased as a potential love interest for Zack in many ways.

Her unbiased support of Zack leads her to be the first Turk to locate him when he’s running away with Cloud after being turned into one of Hojo’s experiments, and she decides not to turn him in to give the duo a fighting chance. She also honors Zack’s wish to make sure his family is happy when Shinra made it that he can’t return home after the events at Nibelheim. However, despite these promises, she’s never seen again. Even though her absence in the original FF7 makes sense, revisiting Gongaga in the following game may leave players feeling like something is missing.

What Cissnei Could Add to the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Trilogy

One of the bigger goals of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy is to tie the original story to the new contexts found in the Compilation of FF7. This can be seen in the use of characters like Nero, Wess, and Kyrie, who appear in Dirge of Cerberus and the side story “The Kids are Alright” respectively. This means that in order for Cissnei’s part in Crisis Core to make sense, her fate will need to be mentioned in a future release if she doesn’t appear as a side character in a game first. It would make sense if fans could find her somewhere around or in Gongaga, as in the original FF7, players could find Zack’s parents and they’d ask Cloud about their son, meaning they’re still worried about him.

Considering how Cissnei has earned her fair share of fans over the years that Crisis Core was stranded on the PSP, and most likely gained more now that the Reunion remaster has now put it on all current-gen platforms, players most likely won’t be too upset to see her working alongside Tseng, Reno, and Rude again in the next installment of the Remake trilogy. Using her would be rather beneficial as it would only serve to further expand the world of FF7.

This doesn’t mean she needs to be shoved into fans’ faces the instant that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth begins, though. The developers have already teased that the next Remake game will likely feature the same familiar locations around Gaia, but in a different order than fans are used to. This means that if Cissnei is used in Remake at all, she could very well be a late-game surprise of some kind. Fans will need to wait and see if the Turk makes a return hopefully later this year.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion is now available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
