During a recent event to celebrate the Nintendo Switch port of The World Ends With You: Final Remix, the topic of the Compilation of FF7 was brought up during a fan Q&A, with Nomura stating that he and his team are keeping the subseries collection’s content in mind for the Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Regarding the matter, Nomura said, “All of us old-timers are considering various developments in regards to what accompanies the remake. Like if we can manage to do something about the Compilation titles too.” However, he stopped short of officially confirming such content’s inclusion.
For those unaware, Compilation of Final Fantasy 7 is a collection of games, animated features, and short stories based in the world and continuity of FF7, containing the likes of Before Crisis: FF7, Dirge of Cerberus: FF7, and the aforementioned Crisis Core: FF7. Although general reception was mixed regarding the quality of Compilation of Final Fantasy 7, with Nomura having license to reintroduce the materials in a new way with the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, it’s possible that fans could see the games and their stories in a more positive light if they make it into the upcoming remake.
All things considered, it’s really anyone’s guess at this point as to how or if any kind of content from Compilation of Final Fantasy 7 will make it into the remake. However, with Square Enix having already established that the FF7 Remake will be “told across a multi-part series" of episodes, it definitely looks like there’s plenty of room for Nomura and his team to weave some Compilation stories into the FF7 Remake’s overall plot should they feel the need to do so.
The Final Fantasy 7 Remake has yet to receive an official release date, but is expected to launch for PlayStation 4.
