According to the original post on Resetera, a conversation between Kitase and Hamaguchi reveals that they want the game to be done by the 35th anniversary of Final Fantsasy, which will only be in 2023, since the 30th anniversary was in January 2018. However, Hamaguchi commented that “that’s a long way off,” so they will most likely be trying to push for a much earlier release date for the game. Based on the fact that the Final Fantasy 7 Remake might not be as far along as we think, the earliest release date fans can expect should be around 2019.

In the conversation, Hamaguchi goes on to say that a lot is hanging on the next (presumably big) gaming event, and that they are hoping to show off some aspects of the game by then. The big event that he might be referring to could be the 2018 E3 conference that is around the corner, as Square Enix has confirmed that it will be holding a conference at E3 this year. Other details that came out in the conversation include the reveal that Aerith’s house will be changing in the remake, and that some characters, such as Biggs and Wedge, have been modified from their original representations.

Furthermore, according to the translation, Hamaguchi mentions that the project has moved completely in-house and that Square Enix will be releasing new footage as soon as they have something of high-quality to show. He anticipates that this will happen in the “near future” due to “how smoothly things are progressing.”

We are yet to see what the Final Fantasy 7 Remake will hold for new Final Fantasy players and old Final Fantasy fans, as the translation also mentions some changes made to existing characters and locations, but the developers are adamant they are making “something we’ve never seen before” and a remake that exceeds the original.
