The most recent issue of Japanese magazine Famitsu includes an interview with Tetsuya Nomura, the director of Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Nomura confirmed that Final Fantasy 7 Remake will make an appearance at TGS 2019. He also teased what fans of the classic Final Fantasy 7 can look forward to. According to Nomura, TGS 2019 will feature the reveal of several recognizable characters from Shinra Inc.

The Shinra Electric Power Company is a multinational industrial corporation in the world of Final Fantasy 7. It supplies Mako energy to the world, but it was originally founded as a weapons manufacturer. In the times of Final Fantasy 7, however, it’s seen as more of a tyrannical megacorporation that uses its control of power resources and its excessive military strength to rule. Shinra is often described as the true villain of Final Fantasy 7.

Given that Final Fantasy 7 depicts a sort of war effort against Shinra, various Shinra employees play major roles in the story. There’s President Shinra and his son Rufus Shinra; Scarlet, the head of Shinra’s Weapons Development Department; and Professor Hojo, Shinra’s Science Department head. Then there’s also the street-level Shinra Investigative Division of General Affairs, the Turks. Square Enix will be introducing at least a few of these characters, or others, soon.

Square Enix is reaching the end of its character reveals for Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Since the remake will, based on what is known, focus entirely on the Midgar chapter of the JPRG, there are some iconic characters that have yet to be introduced. Indeed, fan favorites including Red XIII, Vincent Valentine, Cid Highwind, Cait Sith, and Yuffie Kisagari may have to wait for the second game in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake saga. Fans will have to do with Shinra characters for the time being.

The Tokyo Game Show 2019 starts Wednesday, September 11. Expect more information about Final Fantasy 7 Remake then.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake releases Marve 3, 2020 on PS4.
