As many fans have loved this character since the game’s release, there’s some fans who want to try putting a new spin on the character’s classic look. Some of the best-looking Tifa cosplays over the years are a testament to that. There have been several fan edits or overhauls of Tifa’s design, but this fan’s edit was not only was embraced by the fanbase, it became a new trend that spread like wildfire.

Final Fantasy 7 fan StrawderryST recently posted an edit on Twitter that showcased a few scenes with Tifa’s hair now shorter in length, similar to a bob cut. Her initial post was requesting fan art and pictures of the character accompanied with “#TifaShortHair.” This was followed by her posting the first edit of Tifa to Twitter, which even managed to catch the attention of Square Enix’s Twitter account. From there, the fanart, edits, and more followed through.

This trend even managed to catch the Japanese side of the fanbase where they started posting their own lovely tributes and comics and contributing to the many short haired Tifa posts. According to Strawderry’s original post, the reason why she wanted pictures of short hair Tifa stemmed from her re-design in Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children. Tifa had shorter shoulder length hair in that movie, which had been due to the limited technology at the time, but Strawderry reasoned that it could be an additional thing added in the remake.

This edit has been embraced by many members of the Final Fantasy 7 fanbase, several of them noting how much it accentuates her appearance, or how appropriate it is considering her martial arts roots. Many fans, including Strawderry, created headcanons that this scene could be possible during Tifa’s capture by Shinra’s Weapons Manufacturer Scarlet, with Tifa’s hair being cut by her. The trend is still on-going with more and more fan posts coming in and hopping on the edit, showing that fans love Tifa, even with a small change like this.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is available now on PS4 and PS5.
