On top of Cloud’s addition to the mobile game, the FF 7 crossover with Mobius Final Fantasy will also have new costumes and playing cards based on the remake, all of which are available now. Bearing that in mind, the mashup should serve as an enticing reason for Japanese players to download the title on their smartphones, while also providing Square Enix with another platform on which to promote the remake and remind fans of its redesigned elements, as seen in its gameplay trailer from PlayStation Experience 2015.
For those still unclear as to what Mobius Final Fantasy is exactly, it’s a new title in Square Enix’s long-running RPG series available for mobile devices in Japan, and it retains classic gameplay features from previous entries in the franchise, such as map exploration, leveling up, and a summon system. This isn’t the first time that Cloud Strife has made a cameo in another title’s universe that’s not his own. As it happens, Cloud joined the Super Smash Bros. roster just last month, providing hype not only for the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, but also for the ever-growing set of characters joining Nintendo’s fighting game.
Aside from the Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s assets making an appearance in Mobius Final Fantasy and Smash, fans are understandably excited to eventually play the updated game. However, there are a lot of folks expressing concern over the recent announcement of its story being told episode by episode as a “multi-part series”. And although the new combat style for the RPG could indeed be an unforeseen improvement, there are also some who have questioned the battle system, and if it should have stayed turn-based.
At any rate, since no one but the developers have an idea as to what the Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s outcome will be, it’s important to reserve judgment for the time being. If anything, we can at least all agree the crossover between Mobius Final Fantasy and the Final Fantasy 7 Remake is a fun affair worth celebrating, and that the latter will look stellar once it’s completed with the Unreal Engine 4 powering the game.
The Final Fantasy 7 Remake does not currently have a release date set, and so far it has only been confirmed as a title for the PlayStation 4.
