Although none of the new images have been released due to the event having been held behind closed doors, according to development leader Naoki Hamaguchi, this particular design in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake was said to have been given the green light from director Tetsuya Nomura. Speaking of the FF7 Remake director, he apparently went as far as to say that it “the closest one to the original [Cloud design] up until now."

During the course of the 30th Anniversary Exhibition, Nomura and Hamaguchi explained their reasoning behind making such changes, stating, “While Cloud may look this way, he was a dork. I believe those of you who played the the original would understand what I mean by saying he’s a dorky character.” With this being the case, it’s quite possible that Final Fantasy 7 Remake fans will see Cloud appear to be a tad more goofy and playful than the super serious version that has been prominently displayed in previously released press photos.

Taking all of this into consideration, it’s highly likely we will have to wait a while longer until Square Enix shares these images of the newly designed Cloud Strife with the public, as news on the Final Fantasy 7 Remake has been incredibly scarce as of late. Hopefully, though, the company will divulge more details sooner rather than later, and offer details more sumptuous than the game’s latest development update.

The Final Fantasy 7 Remake is currently in development for PlayStation 4.
