This is according to Final Fantasy 7 Remake producer Yoshinori Kitase, who confirmed that Uematsu is working on the project. It’s unclear at this point if Uematsu will simply be remastering the tracks he created for the original release, or if he will be creating a brand new soundtrack from the ground-up. However, more information on the scope of Uematsu’s role should come to light as we near the game’s release.

As for when Final Fantasy 7 Remake will release, that remains to be seen. Development on the project essentially started over last year when CyberConnect2 was pulled from development, and we haven’t had any significant updates on the game since then. All we know is that Square Enix hopes to release Final Fantasy 7 Remake by 2023, so fans may have to wait years before they actually get their hands on the highly anticipated game.

While Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s release may be far off, that doesn’t mean Square Enix won’t at least give fans an update on its development. In fact, the Japanese game publishing giant is hosting a press conference at E3 2018, where it is expected to show off its biggest titles. Final Fantasy 7 Remake is definitely one of the most anticipated upcoming games from the company, so it would make sense to at least show off a teaser trailer or something at the show.

Then again, Square Enix may be more concerned with building hype for games with more immediate release dates than Final Fantasy 7 Remake. The company has a number of big games in the pipeline, including Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Kingdom Hearts 3, and may use E3 2018 to focus on those titles instead.

Regardless, it will be interesting to see how else development on Final Fantasy 7 Remake has changed since the project was brought in-house. After all, composer Nobuo Uematsu wasn’t involved with the game originally, so other big changes could be in store as well.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is in development for PS4.
