Since this updated version of Final Fantasy 6 has seen multiple changes, there were bound to be some bugs that would also be introduced. One fan has discovered a rather interesting bug during the late-game with a boss fight against the Magic Master. This boss can be fought at the very top of the Cultists’ Tower, a location where the party needs to visit in order to find the Soul of Thamasa Treasure. Upon obtaining said Treasure, members of Kefka Palazzo’s cult will hound the player and summon the Magic Master to fight the party. The Magic Master is extremely powerful, specializing in high-level spells such as Ultima.

That last spell in particular will be cast when the Magic Master is defeated, which the party will need to avoid or else it will result in a game over. This can be done by either using FF6’s Reraise spell on the party to revive them after Ultima has been cast or by using the Jump move to avoid the attack. Alternatively, the party could still win the battle without needing either strategy, as demonstrated in a video uploaded by benryhenson

According to benryhenson, it involves the player needing to defeat the Magic Master boss using the Quick Spell. This spell in Final Fantasy 6 allows the party member who casted it to give them two turns immediately, and stops the other party members and enemies from taking their turns until the extra turns have been taken. If the boss is killed with the first of these two extra turns while Quick is active, Magic Master’s Ultima will be cast and attempt to wipe the party.

With these set of circumstances, the party won’t be Reraised if it has been cast, but still gives them the victory even if all the party members have died. This of course gives the player no experience points or Gil, but the boss has still been defeated. It even gives the player the Megalixir item, which the Magic Master will always drop after battle.

Final Fantasy 6 Pixel Remaster is available now for Mobile and PC.
