According to the game’s producer, Naoki Yoshida, development of Final Fantasy 16 has passed the 95% completion mark. This also means that the game’s official release date will also be revealed in due time, with Yoshida also stating that fans can expect more information regarding the game near the end of the year. In an interview with Dengeki Online, he even stated that a demo was also in the works as well.

According to a translation of Yoshida’s comment, if information about Final Fantasy 16 is revealed too early, then it won’t have the same kind of impact or excitement that it normally would with the proper amount of buildup. With that said, he states that there are plans to share more info about the game about three months before the game releases. He mentions the prospect of a demo, which will be released when he and the team has that proper buildup and momentum.

Other information in this interview also reveals some other noteworthy tidbits, such as Yoshida detailing a story about the development of the game’s battle system. A specific example that was cited about this long and winding development was the Garuda fight with Clive, which went through several iterations. They all note how difficult it was getting to that point, with other members noting that Final Fantasy 5’s ability customization would also be utilized in Final Fantasy 16’s battle system too.

While there is potentially a demo on the horizon, it will likely be released as it comes closer to Final Fantasy 16’s 2023 summer release. This release window was only recently revealed in the “Ambition” trailer for the game that was released in late-October. With only a couple of months left in the year, The Game Awards might seem like the ideal event for the game’s official release date to be announced. This is just speculation for the time being however and could be revealed before or after said showcase.

Final Fantasy 16 will launch in 2023 for PS5.
