Omen was made as part of a partnership between Square Enix and Digic Pictures, the studio responsible for the recently released Kingsglaive Final Fantasy 15 film. The four and a half minute movie/trailer is quite the experience. Here’s a short description to help frame the video:

Despite being King Regis’ omen, the trailer focuses almost entirely on his son Noctis. Noctis goes on a sort of sojourn to save his fiance, only to realize that he himself is the danger to his love. It turns out the dog that has been leading him along this journey is not at all what it seems. And of course, the answer to what exactly is going on will lie in the game itself, Final Fantasy XV.

For those unfamiliar with Final Fantasy 15 and the game’s story, don’t stress over watching this video. It isn’t essential viewing for the game and doesn’t necessarily reflect any events within the game. The leading theory thus far is that this short film takes place even earlier than the events of the Kingsglaive movie, which itself is a prequel to the game. It’s, as the description states, an omen that King Regis has for the future. The impact of this short video is that its events may have influenced the decisions of King Regis in Kingsglaive and on.

For those unfamiliar with the premise of Final Fantasy XV, it revolves around a war that begins after Noctis’ kingdom and family are attacked after an attempted peace treaty. The connection then becomes whether or not King Regis’ omen is a warning about the peace treaty, or a warning that leads him to pursue the peace treaty. Perhaps one should look for reflections of the events in Omen while playing Final Fantasy XV.

Final Fantasy 15 releases November 29, 2016 for PS4 and Xbox One.
