While not every Final Fantasy 15 player has been frustrated by the game’s plot, enough gamers have raised their voices that the game’s director Hajime Tabata has announced changes coming to the story. In a blog post on the Square Enix website, Tabata admits there are some issues with the Final Fantasy 15 story, and hopes that the upcoming fixes will make it more clear and enjoyable for players.
We’ll note that some of the points Tabata makes contain minor spoilers, so gamers who haven’t yet played the game should be aware that spoilers are ahead.
In his post, Tabata points to Chapter 13 as one of the areas that needs updating in Final Fantasy 15. It’s a pivotal point in the game, since it’s where the gameplay changes from open-world to a more linear direction, with stealth becoming the primary mechanic. Unfortunately, this has been frustrating for some players since the chapter significantly limits players’ abilities within the game. Concerning this point, Tabata shared some upcoming changes:
Sadly, the “later date” mentioned by Tabata wasn’t revealed for players. So at the moment, there’s no set timeline for when this patch will be released. That’s discouraging for players, especially those who haven’t yet reached Chapter 13, but who will shortly, and who would like to have the better experience available when they go into the chapter.
Tabata also mentioned some other changes coming to Final Fantasy 15 that should make certain aspects of the story clearer. Square Enix is planning to make some revisions to the cut-scenes, including a new cut-scene that will make the plot easier to follow. Tabata said:
Again, the lack of a release date is frustrating, but at least gamers know the change is coming. When it does eventually release, the patch will be free for all gamers, and won’t require the Season Pass or other DLC purchases.
This isn’t the first time a game has received significant changes to the story. After major backlash to the ending of Mass Effect 3, developer BioWare released an alternate ending. Hopefully the changes coming to Final Fantasy 15 will be positive and won’t be too long in the making.
Despite this issue, Final Fantasy 15 continues to receive strong support, and is selling extremely well. So the upcoming changes should make an already strong game that much better.
