Super Louis 64, known as the Controller Bender, is an intrepid Final Fantasy 14 fan who has made it his goal to create custom controllers for every job in the game. However, the release of the Animal Crossing-like Island Sanctuary mode meant he had to take a break from his quest to become the “IRL Warrior of Light” to instead become the “Farmer of Light.”

His newest three controllers are relatively simple in comparison to some of Super Louis 64’s other Final Fantasy 14 projects. Through a combination of 3D printing, existing materials, and Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons, Super Louis 64 succeeded in his endeavor. The Minecraft pickaxe controller allowed him to gather from botany and mining nodes by swinging the pickaxe–and can be used in Minecraft as well. The fishing controller used the existing fishing rod Joy-Con controller, while the critter controller captured creatures by swinging an actual net.

In addition to controllers for the Scholar and Samurai jobs, among others, Super Louis 64 has done some truly wild controller bending in other games. He has beaten Dark Souls with a Guitar Hero controller, and he played Sombra in Overwatch with a Nintendo Power Glove. He’s even beaten Elden Ring with a controller made of bananas. There may be no end to Super Louis 64’s creativity.

Final Fantasy 14 players often love Super Louis 64’s wacky controller ideas. With over 12,000 subscribers on YouTube, Super Louis 64’s audience is in for a treat every time he develops a new controller. Players frequently ask if they can get controllers of their own in Super Louis 64’s style, along with giving suggestions as to what his next project should be. He is currently working on controllers for the Dragoon and Dark Knight jobs, though fans will have to see if they are completed before other projects.

Players have been enjoying the Final Fantasy 14 Island Sanctuary that inspired Super Louis 64’s newest controllers. Despite being a casual game mode, many players maxed out their islands within the first couple of weeks and now find themselves wishing for more content in the game mode, which had less customization than they were hoping. With luck, Final Fantasy 14 will continue to support the mode in future patches–maybe even by allowing them to have full-fledged instanced houses on their Unnamed Islands.

Final Fantasy 14 is available now on PC, PS4, and PS5.
