The animals of Final Fantasy 14’s Island Sanctuary are not just for show, either. Taking care of them can reward the players with different resources that can be useful for crafting and building. Do not expect to be able to capture them all at first, as different kinds (in terms of size) require different traps that have recipes learned only by leveling up.

All The Small-Sized Animals

Small animals are the first kind the player can collect. The trap needed to capture them is unlocked by completing the “Adorable Animals” quest. The trap required is a Makeshift Net, which can be crafted with one Island Branch and two Island Vines.

Just as there are regular animals, there are also rare animals that can be found on the island. These rare kinds are often a different color from basic animals. They come out during specific times and weather.

All The Medium-Sized Animals

To capture the medium-sized animals on the island, the player must reach Sanctuary Rank 6. Once they have, they will learn the recipe for Makeshift Restraints. The recipe requires three Island Hemp and one Island Copper.

Just like the small animals, there are also rare medium-sized ones.

All The Large-Sized Animals

Catching large animals will become available when the player reaches Sanctuary Rank 8. At that level, they will learn the recipe for Makeshift Soporific to catch large animals. The recipe requires two Island Laver, one Island Sap, and two Island Jellyfish.

There are also a couple of rare large animals.

Upgrading The Pasture

Once the player can catch animals, they start off with just five slots in their pasture. This can be upgraded as the player reaches new Sanctuary Ranks. Ten slots can become available once the player reaches Sanctuary Rank 4 and upgraded the Cozy Cabin to its second version. The player will also have to spend one thousand Seafarer Cowries to get the upgrade.

After that, the pasture can be upgraded one more time at Sanctuary Rank 7. This will give the pasture 20 slots for animals. However, the player will also need to upgrade the Cozy Cabin to its third version and spend 1,500 Seafarer Cowries.

Final Fantasy 14 is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Mac, Steam, and PC.
