Final Fantasy 14 recently held a Letter from the Producer Live to showcase some of the new content coming to the critically-acclaimed MMORPG in the new patch. One of the most exciting reveals was of the Final Fantasy 14 6.3 patch trailer, which showed off several new pieces of content including the new Alliance raid, Myths of the Realm: Euphrosyne.

Though most of the bosses revealed in the trailer became the topics of conversation in the Final Fantasy 14 community, one in particular caught the eye of Elden Ring fans. Halone, the war and ice goddess of Heavensward’s Ishgard, will be one of the bosses faced in Euphrosyne. Equipped with a winged helmet that obscured her face, golden armor, long hair, and a magnificent sword, many players immediately drew connections between Halone and Malenia–arguably the hardest boss in Elden Ring.

Euphrosyne is the second of three parts of Endwalker’s Myths of the Realm Alliance raid, which pits players against the enigmatic Twelve–the patron deities of Eorzea. Though players have viewed depictions of these gods in paintings and statues, seeing them in their full glory has been a big deal for fans of Final Fantasy 14’s lore. Now that players have seen most of the gods with Euphrosyne, players only have to wait until Patch 6.5 to see the designs for the remaining three deities: Thaliak, Llymlaen, and Oschon.

Fans of Final Fantasy 14 and Elden Ring couldn’t help but get excited about the fight against Halone in the upcoming raid. The critically-acclaimed Heavensward expansion saw The Fury become one of the most popular gods in the Final Fantasy 14 pantheon, and players are analyzing every short second of the trailer to get ready for the battle. Many hope Halone is as hard to beat in Final Fantasy 14 as Malenia was in Elden Ring.

Of course, neither Halone nor Malenia was the first character to wear winged, face-covering helmets. Their designs are heavily-inspired by Norse valkyries, like Lenneth from Valkyrie Profile, Angewomon from Digimon, or the actual Valkyries from God of War: Ragnarok. Nevertheless, few can deny the impact Game of the Year-winning Elden Ring left on the gaming community, and Malenia’s role in that legacy. Final Fantasy 14 players won’t have to wait long to face their own version of Malenia, as Patch 6.3, releases January 10, 2023.

Final Fantasy 14 is available now for PC, PS4, and PS5.
