Sage and Reaper, the two jobs introduced in Final Fantasy 14’s Endwalker expansion, ended up having a contest of its own, and the full results of this competition (both winners and runner ups) have just been announced on the Lodestone. Though the extremely talented and fiercely passionate Final Fantasy 14 community produced an endless stream of creative weapon designs for the contest, there could only be four winners in the end for Sharlayan’s Sage and Garlemald’s Reaper.

A pattern from the previous Final Fantasy 14 weapon contest seemed to imply that Square Enix wanted to pick one serious and one humorous design to feature as its winners, and this pattern technically holds true for the Sage and Reaper weapons as well. The first winner is a design that any self-respecting Reaper would love to have. It is demonic, black, and red – the epitome of the Reaper’s aesthetic, and certainly one that will find plenty of love when it finds its way to the world of Etheirys. The second Reaper weapon is made by Aichi, and it incorporates a charming scarecrow as the centerpiece of its design, referencing the farming origins of the Reaper.

On the other hand, the first Sage nouliths evoke the design of a fan-favorite Final Fantasy 14 character from Shadowbringers: Feo Ul, the King of the Fairies. Boasting Feo Ul’s autumnal colors, this Sage weapon resembles fairy wings in its design, and from a fashion standpoint, it’s also a rather striking accessory when sheathed below the shoulders. The second Sage design is an extremely amusing concept of turning the nouliths into kitchen utensils. It is accompanied by an illustration of a lalafellin maid drinking a cup of tea, and it really ties the whole concept together.

While there is no exact timetable on when these weapons might get implemented by Square Enix, it’s quite likely that they’ll be obtainable through the Gold Saucer and its Manderville Gold Saucer Points. With Patch 6.3 for Endwalker coming in January 2023, Final Fantasy 14 players will at least be occupied with the new Alliance Raid before the designs become available in-game.

Final Fantasy 14 is available now on PC, PS4, and PS5.
